Google to work on real time space imagery

Search engine giant Google already has an excellent product in the form of Google Maps and Google Earth which covers the entire surface of the planet Earth. Now, they are aiming for the space.

The company has said that they are going to work with scientists building a huge sky-scanning telescope to generate real time space imagery.

The project already has access to some of the country’s leading research institutions.

Donald Sweeney, manager of the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope, or LSST said in a statement on this project: “Google’s ability to do large database queries and to service that data is unmatched, I would say.”

Google’s involvement in the project would bring them the much needed attention and support as they are competing to get access to public money from the government.

W. Henry Lambright, professor of public administration at the Maxwell School at Syracuse University spoke about this project: “If they want to finance this thing and keep it going and maintained, they’ve got to make this not just the astronomers’ telescope, but the people’s telescope.”
