Deskstar 7K1000: Hitachi aiming to be the first one out with a 1-Terabyte Storage Drive

Seagate might be the market leaders when it comes to storage hard drives in the market, but Hitachi surely has plans to beat them by launching a 1 TB drive in the market first.

We already have 750 GB hard disks available in the market and a 1 TB drive would be an industry milestone.

Hitachi plans to soon launch their Deskstar 7K1000. The company claims that it could store one terabyte of data or 250,000 4-minute digital songs.

They aim to start selling it for $399 in the first quarter. Interestingly, the hard disk industry too more than 30 years to reach one gigabyte by 1991. And we have reached 1000 times that in around 15 years.

Hitachi plans to sell the hard disk through retail outlets this quarter. Makers of high end computer systems also might start offering this hard disk in their products in the coming months.
